One of the trustees visited West Africa in late 2006, with Fr Sam, and was particularly struck with the need of children in Grand Cess in Liberia, many having to work each day to help the family survive. He returned with the idea that the 100 empty local school places should be filled and Help a Child was born.

** College student scheme stopped during Covid restrictions and is awaiting an evaluation of the efficacy of the scheme before it is potentially restarted.
